Raise A Glass: Terrace NQ

Named after its rooftop garden hangout, made up of three separate seating areas and a well-stocked wood-pallet bar, Manchester’s Terrace NQ is one of the best spots in the city to soak up the warm spring and summer rays over a cold beer or a luxurious cocktail.

The two-story ginnel bar, situated amongst a plethora of fantastic eateries and drinking spots in the bohemian Northern Quarter neighbourhood, sits in a recently pedestrianised area between two busy thoroughfares - Thomas Street and Edge Street. Boasting a ground-level space that’s narrower than it is wide, hence its ginnel bar description, both its entrances have been adorned with huge panes of glass, adding to the striking exterior of the old townhouse building and allowing more light into its dimly lit first floor.

Taking its namesake even further in recent times, Terrace NQ has expanded out onto the aforementioned streets which enclose it. Providing those looking for refreshments with even more capacity outdoors, each of the areas is littered with tables and parasols enticing guests to sit, take a load off and relax. Moreover, a cosy courtyard on the bottom floor is also open to the public, should you require a more intimate space to enjoy your company and the sun.

Opening the menu, once you’ve found the perfect place to perch, you’ll discover a pretty considerable offering of boozy beverages to get stuck into. From classic cocktail options such as a Mai Tai or a Daiquiri, to signature in-house specials the likes of the Bourbon Mac Daddy, made up of maple syrup, ginger, vanilla and lashings of Bourbon whiskey. There’s no shortage of drinks to choose from should your tastebuds need something sweet and tangy. For the lager drinkers, the IPA fans and the cider devotees, you’ll find a constantly rotating choice of draught pump options to sample, whilst our scrumptious Manchester Union Lager will always be available by the pint.

As the drinks begin to flow and the day draws closer to its end, you’ll no doubt find yourself hankering for some nourishment or ‘top scran’, as the Mancunians might say. Rather conveniently, Terrace NQ happens to be surrounded by some of the best independent vendors in the city, offering a variety of plates straight to your table. Simply scan the QR code attached to the table you’re sitting at and order pizza, chicken and more from adjacent food joints such as Italian pizzeria, Noi Quattro, and Yard & Coop, ‘the home of Buttermilk Fried Chicken in Manchester’. Not quite what you fancy? Terrace NQ also boasts its own kitchen, producing delicious plates of food to suit all requirements - vegetarian and vegan options included.

Food consumed and belly adequately satisfied, your attention should then turn back to the drinks menu and the music that can be heard blasting out across the lower floor of the bar, seven days a week. Whether you’ve just clocked off from work for the weekend or you’re out celebrating a special occasion with friends - Terrace NQ is the place to be, delivering idyllic ambience throughout the day and BIG party vibes late into the night.
